High-efficiency Usage Guide for Jib Cranes!

March 07 , 2025

In industrial production, jib cranes are common and practical lifting equipment, undertaking the crucial task of material handling. Using jib cranes correctly can not only significantly improve production efficiency but also ensure operational safety.

Basic Understanding of Jib Cranes
A jib crane consists of a column, a slewing arm, and an electric hoist. The column is responsible for supporting the equipment. The slewing arm can rotate around the column, with an operating radius ranging from several meters to more than ten meters. The electric hoist is used for lifting and lowering materials. According to the power source, jib cranes are divided into two types: manual and electric. Manual jib cranes have a low cost and are suitable for scenarios where light materials need to be handled and the lifting frequency is low. Electric jib cranes have a high degree of automation, fast lifting speed, strong load capacity, and can handle heavier goods frequently and efficiently.

Preparations Before Use
Before starting the jib crane, a comprehensive inspection must be carried out. First, check the connection of each component. For example, check whether the bolts are loose and whether there are cracks in the welds, especially focusing on the connection between the slewing arm and the column. Then, check the wire rope. Once problems such as broken wires, wear, and rust are found, it must be replaced in a timely manner. Next, test the braking device of the electric hoist to ensure that the braking is sensitive and effective. At the same time, clean the working area and mark out a clear operating range. Before the official lifting operation, conduct an unloaded test run. Only after confirming that the equipment is operating normally can the lifting operation be carried out.

Standard Operating Procedures
Operating the jib crane must strictly follow the procedures. After starting the equipment, lift the heavy object slowly to avoid impact. During the lifting process, the operator should keep an eye on the heavy object at all times, and it is strictly prohibited to lift it obliquely. If it is necessary to change the lifting direction, stop the lifting and lowering action first, and then rotate the slewing arm. After reaching the destination, lower the heavy object slowly. Only after the heavy object is placed steadily can the connection of the hook be released. Pay special attention that it is prohibited for personnel to stay or pass under the heavy object.

Maintenance Tips
Regular maintenance is the key to extending the service life of the jib crane. In daily life, clean the sundries on the surface of the equipment to keep it clean. Regularly lubricate each component and conduct a comprehensive inspection, with a focus on the electrical system. Once any wear of the parts is found, replace them in a timely manner to ensure operational safety.
